AI-Powered Age Verification Takes Flight at Stuttgart Airport
In a move that’s set to revolutionize the retail experience, Edeka Group, Germany’s largest grocery retail chain, has deployed AI-powered age-verification technology at one of its micro locations at Stuttgart Airport in Stuttgart, Germany. This innovative solution, powered by Diebold Nixdorf’s Vynamic Smart Vision Age Verification technology, uses artificial intelligence to estimate the age of customers for the purchase of products like alcoholic beverages.
Shopping just got a whole lot easier at Stuttgart Airport
The technology, which was first showcased at the National Retail Federation’s Big Show convention in January, also utilizes computer vision to detect instances of customers failing to scan items, accidentally adding items without scanning, or using false barcodes. This means that employees can focus on more pressing tasks, rather than constantly monitoring the checkout process.
AI-powered age verification: the future of retail?
In the first week of its deployment, an impressive 80% of age-restricted purchases were approved without the need for employee intervention. This not only streamlines the shopping experience but also reduces the workload of employees, allowing them to focus on providing exceptional customer service.
“The creation of quick, simple purchasing processes for customers and my employees is key. This is what makes our store at Stuttgart Airport so attractive to busy travelers,” said Florian Jaeger, co-owner of the 24/7 store. “Thanks to AI support, we have already been able to drastically reduce employee interventions for age checks.”
Stuttgart Airport: where shopping meets innovation
As the retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s clear that AI-powered age verification is set to play a significant role in shaping the future of shopping. With its ability to simplify the purchasing process, reduce employee workload, and enhance the overall customer experience, this technology is poised to revolutionize the way we shop.
