ASU Club Empowering Student Coders for Tech Careers
The Google Developer Student Club at Arizona State University (ASU) is on a mission to equip students with the skills and network necessary to thrive in the competitive tech industry.
Building a Strong Foundation
Led by Arnav Aghav, a computer science student and president of the ASU Google Developer Student Club, the club focuses on preparing members with technical skills, resilience, and adaptability crucial in today’s dynamic job market. Aghav emphasizes, “We recognize the importance of preparing our members not just with technical skills, but also with the resilience and adaptability required in today’s dynamic job market.”

Keeping Pace with Industry Trends
The club, known as GDSC, was founded in 2019 by computer science alumni Ananay Arora and Andrew Hill. It is part of a global network supported by Google, empowering students to tackle real-world challenges with technology. GDSC hosts software workshops covering a range of topics like Android, iOS, data structures, algorithms, and machine learning to keep students updated on cutting-edge technologies dominating the industry.
Pavel Ryabov, the club’s technical officer, plays a key role in planning workshops and guiding students. Ryabov highlights, “Our workshops aim to introduce students to cutting-edge technologies that are dominating in the industry, and excite them by creating the initial project together.”
Industry Insights and Networking
GDSC doesn’t just focus on workshops; it also hosts industry speaker events. These events feature professionals like Courtney Ngai, a senior software engineer at PayPal, providing insights into technical projects, recruiting practices, and internship tips. These events not only educate but also serve as valuable networking opportunities for students.

Opportunities for Growth
The club offers a range of resources, including a member-exclusive resume database for internship and job opportunities. Additionally, GDSC plans to introduce partner project opportunities for members to engage in collaborative engineering projects with local businesses or nonprofits. The leadership team is also exploring hackathons like Google Summer of Code to enhance students’ programming skills.
