Career and Technology Center to Expand Services with New Child Care Facility and Culinary Arts Program
The James Valley Career and Technology Center is set to begin construction on a new child care center, which will provide a valuable resource for students and staff alike. The center, which is expected to open in the fall of 2025, will offer regular and drop-in child care services for district staff, and will have the capacity for eight infants, 15 toddlers, and 20 prekindergarten students.

In addition to the child care center, the Career and Technology Center is also planning to launch a new culinary arts program in partnership with The Arts Center in Jamestown. The program, which is expected to be open in the fall of 2025, will provide students and the community with a state-of-the-art facility for culinary arts training.

The Career and Technology Center has also completed a comprehensive needs assessment, which found that all of its programming was validated. The center is now looking to expand its services to meet the growing demand for career and technical education.
“There’s a strong demand for students to have those skills in the occupation areas,” said Adam Gehlhar, director of the Career and Technology Center. “We’re always seeking out, looking for opportunities to engage with people who might want to partner because we don’t anticipate being able to start a program and employ somebody full time to do something like that.”
The center is also exploring opportunities to partner with local businesses and organizations to provide students with real-world experience and training.

Overall, the James Valley Career and Technology Center is poised to make a significant impact on the community by providing students with the skills and training they need to succeed in the workforce.
“It can be directly out of high school going into the workforce and pay scales for those are just as much as looking at someone that’s gone for a four-year degree,” said Heidi Eckart, assistant director of the Career and Technology Center.
With its new child care center and culinary arts program, the Career and Technology Center is well on its way to achieving its goal of providing students with the skills and training they need to succeed.
