Investing in the Future of Law Enforcement
As a journalist, I’ve had the privilege of covering various stories that highlight the importance of innovation in law enforcement. Recently, I came across a remarkable development that showcases the commitment of law enforcement agencies to stay ahead of the curve. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a substantial Technology Grant Award of $665,000 from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
“We have, I believe, it’s 10 agencies that we support through investigations and other matters, here in the county,” Sheriff Allard said. “This also gives us the ability to use these tools to support their endeavors and assist them…whenever needed.”
This grant is a testament to the office’s dedication to enhancing its capabilities in investigating crime scenes, collecting evidence, and gathering data. The funds will be utilized to acquire cutting-edge equipment, including mobile and fixed license plate readers, advanced dash cameras, a state-of-the-art drone, and a 3-D laser.

The significance of this grant cannot be overstated, especially considering the vast area that Steuben County covers – a staggering 1,400 square miles. With this new equipment, the sheriff’s office will be better equipped to gather information from traffic on three main interstates and provide support to neighboring law enforcement agencies.
