With its app being compared to online shopping platforms like eBay and Amazon.com, and financial tech services like PayPal, MercadoLibre is generating revenue from marketplace services, product sales, fees on fintech products, and commissions from mobile payments.

The company’s revenue almost doubled year over year in the first quarter to $4.3 billion, with strong double-digit percentage growth in active users. The number of unique active buyers in its marketplace business grew by 16% year over year to 53.5 million, while the number of fintech monthly active users grew 38% to 49 million.
