New Equipment Revealed
Among the new equipment unveiled during the parade was the Haider platform, Pakistan’s first domestically produced VT-4 main battle tank, designed in collaboration with China. This unveiling marked a significant milestone in Pakistan’s defense capabilities, following a 2017 agreement with China for the acquisition and local production of 300 VT-4 tanks.
Advanced Missile Systems
In addition to the VT-4 tank, Pakistan also introduced the long-range HQ-9/P surface-to-air missile system, which entered service in 2021. With an operational range of 125 kilometers (78 miles), the HQ-9/P enhances Pakistan’s air defense capabilities significantly. The parade also featured the Fatah 2 guided multiple-launch rocket system and the medium-range Ababeel ballistic missile, equipped with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles.
Future Programs
Looking ahead, Pakistan announced ambitious new defense programs, including the PFX initiative aimed at replacing the existing JF-17 combat aircraft. The upcoming Fatah 3 missile, with a range of 450 kilometers, is poised to enter service soon, while the development of the Fatah 4 missile, boasting a range of 700 kilometers, is currently underway.
