Poland has reason to be proud, with eight of its universities ranking among the top 1,000 in the world, according to the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The prestigious ranking, also known as the Shanghai List, has been published since 2003 and is now compiled by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, an international organisation that focuses on higher education research.

The University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków have made it to the 401-500 band, a testament to their academic excellence. Meanwhile, the Gdańsk University of Technology is ranked in the 801-900 band, while the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the Warsaw University of Technology, and the Wrocław Medical University are all ranked in the band between 901 and 1,000.
