This marks a significant leap from the traditional pitching gun invented back in 1896. The machine boasts control over 11 of the 12 degrees of freedom for pitches, maintaining a fixed release point of 56 1/2 feet from the plate.

MLB’s Approval and Regulation

Major League Baseball (MLB) has been proactive in regulating on-field technology since 2016. This year, the league has approved six cutting-edge products for in-game, on-field use. These include 4D Motion’s kinematic/movement tracker, Catapult’s GPS tracker, STATSports’ GPS tracker, Pulse’s Motus Sleeve for measuring biomechanics, and heart monitors from WHOOP and Zephyr. Additionally, two bat sensors from Blast Motion and two from Diamond Kinetics have been greenlit for on-field use during workouts.
