Scattaglia Growers and Shippers (SGS) is Revolutionizing the Organic Stone Fruit Industry

As consumers become increasingly health-conscious, the demand for organic produce has skyrocketed. In response, Scattaglia Growers and Shippers (SGS) has introduced an innovative organic stone fruit program, featuring peaches, plums, and nectarines. This California-based grower, packer, and shipper is committed to producing healthy, safe fruit while protecting the environment.

Fresh from the farm

At the heart of SGS’s organic program lies a focus on three key elements: superb size, vibrant color, and exceptional flavor. According to Kira Navison, marketing director for SGS, the company’s organic grower has installed an Aweta sizer, which utilizes advanced AI technology for precise fruit grading. This ensures consistency in fruit size, color, and flavor, meeting consumers’ high expectations.

Advanced technology for precise fruit grading

In addition to its cutting-edge grading system, SGS has incorporated Clean Works technology to enhance consumer safety. This waterless technology sanitizes fruit and safeguards against pathogens, reducing the risk of illness and extending the shelf life of fruit. As Navison notes, there has been a noticeable difference in efficiency since Clean Works was incorporated into SGS’s operations.

Sanitizing fruit for a safer consumer experience

One of SGS’s multi-generational growers, Kliewer Farms, has opted to convert its stone fruit assortment to organic produce, sharing SGS’s commitment to sustainable fruit cultivation. This partnership creates a strong foundation for a successful season.

A shared commitment to sustainability

This year, the industry’s overall organic stone fruit crop is lighter, but Navison remains confident and ready to enter the category. SGS will be showcasing its organic stone fruit program at the Organic Produce Summit (OPS) this year. Be sure to stop by booth No. 403 to sample their fruit, meet the grower, and learn more about their program.
