South Korea Strengthens Ties with US through Tech Research Centers

The Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Centers have been set up at Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, Purdue University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, South Korea plans to implement joint research and development projects at the centers starting this year to secure technologies for new growth engines.
“In order to respond to the complex global crisis and challenges, seeking solidarity and cooperation with like-minded countries is crucial,” said Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun. “Through the cooperation centers, we will pave the way for a solid technology alliance between South Korea and the US and lead industrial innovation.”

The announcement came during the Korea-US Advanced Industry and Technology Cooperation Forum, held on the margins of Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun’s visit to Washington for a trilateral meeting with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Japanese Industry Minister Ken Saito.
South Korea plans to increase the number of such centers to 12 by 2027, further solidifying its position as a leader in cutting-edge industries.
