Southern Union State Community College’s Valley Campus Gets a Major Renovation

As a long-time resident of the Valley area, I’ve had the pleasure of watching Southern Union State Community College’s Valley campus grow and evolve over the years. And I’m excited to report that the campus is currently undergoing a major renovation that promises to take its programs and facilities to the next level.

According to Robin Brown, Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, the renovation is focused on expanding existing programs and introducing new ones to the campus. This includes the addition of a new library, a redesigned reception area, and renovated restrooms. The building is also getting a technology upgrade, with brand-new smart TVs and projectors being installed in each classroom, as well as upgraded WiFi throughout the building.

But what’s really exciting is the introduction of two new programs to the Valley campus: Aviation Maintenance Technology and Veterinary Technology. The Aviation Maintenance Technology program is a second-year course that will funnel students from the Opelika campus, while the Veterinary Technology program is a brand-new program that will be introduced to the Valley campus later this year.

As Brown explained, the demand for aviation maintenance technicians is high, with many current technicians nearing retirement age. And with the Veterinary Technology program, students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with animals and learning the skills they need to succeed in this field.

In addition to these new programs, the campus is also expanding its existing programs in Medical Assistance Technology, Physical Therapy Technology, Electrical Technology, and Adult Education. And with the renovation of the community room, individuals and community organizations will have a state-of-the-art space to host events and activities.

This renovation is a testament to the college’s commitment to providing its students with the best possible education and resources, and I have no doubt that it will have a positive impact on the workforce and economy of the Valley community.
