Tech Support Meets Students at Fall Orientation

As the summer season comes to a close, universities across the country are gearing up for the new academic year. At Miami, our IT Services department is no exception. This summer, we’ve been hard at work, attending summer orientation sessions, replacing Wi-Fi access points, and getting new systems in place. Our goal? To make the transition to Miami as seamless as possible for the class of 2028.

Students getting familiar with university organizations

Throughout June, we attended the Orientation Resource Fair, meeting with students and their parents, answering questions, and providing information about the technology available on campus. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with the incoming class and help them get settled in.

“It was great to get out of the office and meet people directly,” said our Accessible Technology coordinator, recalling the experience. “It’s wonderful to connect with incoming students.”

As we shared information about our services, we also introduced our newest resource: the Tech Support Lounge. Replacing the old MiTech support center, this new walk-up support center will be available in the Armstrong Student Center come fall semester. Students will be able to walk up and meet with support analysts, like Zacchary Townsend, to address any issues with their technology.

A chill atmosphere for students to work and get help

“It will be a relaxed environment for people to work while having people around to help with any computer or software issues,” Zacchary explained.

As we reflect on the 2024 Orientation Season, we’re reminded of the importance of providing reliable resources to our students. And that’s exactly what IT Services is here to do.
