The Future of Technology: Why the US and India Must Lead the Way
As I sat in the audience listening to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s remarks at the iCET industry roundtable, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of urgency. The message was clear: the US and India must remain at the forefront of technology if we want to protect and defend our value systems.
India and the US are forging a stronger partnership in critical technologies.
The India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) was launched in May 2022 with the aim of fostering greater collaboration between the two nations in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, critical minerals, advanced telecommunications, and defence space. And it’s not hard to see why. The world is changing rapidly, and the pace of technological advancement is accelerating at an unprecedented rate.
“The US and India have got to remain at the forefront of technology in case we need to protect and defend our value systems and it is part of a larger strategic interest,” Doval said.
The importance of innovation cannot be overstated. As Doval highlighted, the progress made in the defence innovation roadmap and startups has been remarkable. And it’s not just about innovation; production and deployment are equally crucial. As Sullivan noted, building the ecosystem and supply chain is key to production.
The semiconductor industry is a critical component of the technology ecosystem.
The iCET initiative has achieved more than we could have imagined, and it’s heartening to see the progress made in such a short span of time. But we cannot rest on our laurels. The US and India must continue to work together to support each other and encourage greater collaboration in the technology ecosystem.
The India-US partnership is crucial for advancing critical technologies.
As I left the event, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of optimism. The future of technology is bright, and with the US and India leading the way, I have no doubt that we can overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
